The Youth Football Skills Challenge is a free event, co-sponsored by the Plant City Champions for Youth non-profit organization and the Plant City Parks & Recreation Department.

No preregistration is needed. Competition is open to all area youths whether you are playing rec league flag football or not!

2025 competition was on Saturday, October 18, 2025
at the Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex

2026 event will be announced in September 2026!

2025 will be our 31st season hosting the competition.

NEW FORMAT FOR 2025!

Event Details

  • Held at the Otis M. Andrews Sports Complex, 2402 East Cherry Street, Plant City FL 33563.
  • Registration on arrival at site at 8:30 a.m., competition starts at 8:30 a.m., ends at 10:30 a.m. (PCPRD Flag Football players should compete after their 8:30 a.m. game or before their 9:45 a.m. game).
  • Winners announced at 11:00 a.m.
  • Awards for top three in each age group: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15.
  • Boys and girls compete separately.

Event Rules

  • Punt & Pass Rules
    • Tennis shoes or cleats only (no bare feet).
    • Must use the provided equipment.
    • One attempt at the punt and the pass.
    • Distance is measured to the nearest inch.
    • No negative distances recorded, just zero (0).
    • Five-foot penalty for going over the line on the punt or the pass.
    • Complete miss of the ball allows a retake of that skill.
    • Ties are broken with participants completing the entire competition.
  • Measuring:
    • Spotter marks the spot on the ground where the ball landed.
    • String is pulled at a 90-degree angle from the tape to the landing spot.
    • End of string is then swung toward the skill starting point.
    • Distance is at the end of the string on the tape to the nearest inch
  • Flag Pull Rules
    • Each participant runs a timed “M-Drill” and pulls a flag at each turn totaling three flag pulls.
    • One attempt at the drill.
    • Time is stopped once all flags are pulled, and participants run through the finish line.

    • Time is subtracted from final combined distances of other drills to equal the final score.
