The Basketball Skills Competition is a free event, co-sponsored by the Plant City Champions for Youth non-profit organization and the Plant City Parks & Recreation Department.
No preregistration is needed. Competition is open to all area youths whether you are playing rec league basketball or not!
The next competition is in January, 2026. An info flyer will be available in January from the Parks & Recreation Department at recinfo@plantcitygov.com or by calling 813-659-4255.
2026 will be our 53rd season hosting the competition.
Event Details
- Held in the Sadye Gibbs Martin Community Center gym, 302 South Maryland Avenue
- Line up on site at 8:45 a.m., competition starts at 9:00 a.m., ends by 11:00 a.m.
- Rec league teams that play at 9:00 a.m. should compete after their game, teams playing at 10:15 a.m. should compete before their game.
- Skills demonstrated include passing (chest and bounce passes to a target), dribbling (through cones and back against the clock) and shooting (free throws and outside the key), with points earned at each activity.
- Scoring is for accuracy or speed.
- Awards for top 3 in each single age group:
- Boys: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
- Girls 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
Special Parks & Rec Team Attendance Competition
The current year Parks & Rec team with the most participants in attendance in uniform will win a free team pizza party!
- 100% attendance teams are all automatic winners!
- Tiebreaker if needed: highest "team total" points scored by the uniformed team members.
